2008 Testimonials
Liz Vagg - KR3 - The trip far exceeded my expectations. It was fulfilling to get off the beaten track, away from tourists and experience a part of Australia I knew nothing about. What a beautiful river! As a budding photographer I was constantly mezmorized by the natural surroundings I was paddling through. What a reward to have my camera at the ready as I floated past a Great Billed Heron standing statue-like on the bank amongst the paperbarks. He was so well camouflaged my fellow 4 canoeists had already passed him by. I would definately recommend the trip to friends and hope to come back for more myself one day soon.
Sandra Poth & Klaus Sroehl - KR3 - The trip exceeded our expectations. Beautiful scenery, the most amazing campsites, Jenn's knowledge of the flora and fauna is outstanding. 5 Star meals when you least expect them, overall just a brilliant experience you cannot miss. Thank you very much for this unique experience!
Jo Beer - KR3 - I'm ususally a 5 Star girl, but you can't beat 5 million stars on a Gecko Canoeing trip!!
Rosemary Lembke - EV5 & WKR6 - Extraordinary 5 day hike starting at Eva Valley and ending at the Katherine Gorge Visitor Centre. Which part wasn't there to enjoy? Superb 3 day paddle with the adventure road trip there and back on the Wickham River, more remote locations will be requested when next booking with Gecko!
Stephen Ross - KR3 - As a family we tried both canoeing experiences Katherine had to offer. On one we paddled a section of the Katherine River that had 200 other canoeists, listened to amplified tour boats that passed by every 10 minutes, with helicopters buzzing overhead. On the other we paddled the Katherine River in a small group, saw no other people for 3 days, had a guide that knew the river well, cooked great food and was a mine of information. All this in a pristine environment with moving water and fun rapids, it doesn't take much to guess which one is Gecko Canoeing!
Paul Schroder - KD6 - One of the most rewarding things I've done. The diversity and abundance of both flora and fauna was fantastic, this combined with a great crew of people made for an enjoyable 6 days. When (if) I write a book next year about my journey around Australia, my time spent on this Gecko Canoeing tour will most certainly be a highlight! Thanks again.
Joy Scott - KD6 - The trip began with packing appropriate gear, then transport to the launching spot. Mick carried an amazing amount of gear and food for 9 people for 6 days. Paddling was not strenuopus, I am 68 years old and felt happy to get into the canoe after every break and ready to go each day. The environment was beautiful, especially the birds, it was great to leave the campsites in a pristine condition. Food was varied, excellent and well presented, nice touches were the white table cloth and the esky of cold drinks on pick up.
Anthony Cutajar - KR3 - The trip was just what I needed to escape the routine of the daily grind. The service that Paula and Jenn provided far exceeded my expectations. All I needed was my sense of humour, the rest was taken care of by our guides and Mother Nature. Thanks for the Birthday Cake guys, it was a really thoughtful touch and I appreciate it heaps!
Heather Thanos - KR3 - What an adventure and privilege to be able to appreciate this beautiful stretch of the Katherine River over 3 days! This was the most physically challenging thing I've done, I found the kayaking pretty hard going at times. But it was enormously satisfying to recognise how much I improved and what I learnt about myself. Our group of 8 women aged 53-69 (and a half!) was pretty amazing and we had so much fun together. Gecko Canoeing deserves lots of praise for putting this trip together and making sure its a positive experience to be remembered. You know from the start that you are in safe hands and we were looked after so well by Paula and Jenn, 2 delightful young women who seemed to tune into each of us, quickly, working out what we brought to and stood to gain from the experience. Thanks again to all the team!
Ronald Jess - KD6 - The Northern Territory had been the only state I had never seen. On seeing the newspaper story I knew I had found the best option for a trip to the NT. The decision to go was the best thing I've ever done. The river trip itself was the highest standard possible in every detail. I recommend to anyone to never hesitate, just go and you will never regret it!
